Referral Procedure
Oakbridge Legal Services provides non-reserved legal services. Where a matter requires a reserved legal activity, we will not undertake that work ourselves — instead, we follow a clear referral process to help you reach an appropriately regulated professional.
Why we refer
We are an independent legal services provider and are not a firm of solicitors. We are not authorised or regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). We provide non-reserved legal services and practical legal assistance. Where a matter requires a reserved legal activity or advice from an appropriately regulated professional, we will explain this to you and, where appropriate, recommend that you obtain assistance from an authorised solicitor or other suitably regulated professional.
How referrals work
1. Scope assessment
When you instruct us, we assess whether your matter falls within our non-reserved scope or requires a reserved legal activity that only an authorised professional can carry out.
2. We tell you clearly
If your matter needs a regulated professional, we will explain this to you in plain terms, set out what is and isn't reserved, and confirm the position in writing.
3. Referral options
Where appropriate, we will help you identify suitable authorised providers — such as SRA-regulated solicitors, licensed conveyancers or notaries — and explain the type of professional your matter needs.
4. Handover
We will agree with you what information is passed on, and only with your consent. Where helpful, we can provide a summary of the work done so far to help your new provider pick up the matter.
Reserved legal activities
The following activities are reserved under the Legal Services Act 2007 and must be carried out by an authorised person. If your matter involves any of these, we will refer you on:
- Exercising rights of audience
- Conducting litigation
- Reserved instrument activities
- Reserved probate activities
- Notarial activities
- Administration of oaths
We do not receive commission for referrals and we are not tied to any particular firm. Our role is to help you reach the right regulated professional for your matter — the choice of provider remains yours.
